The hunt began yesterday, but there's still time to save seals.
Tell Canada what you'll do if it cancels the slaughter.
Tell Canada what you'll do if it cancels the slaughter.
Yesterday the Canadian government gave commercial sealers permission to start killing the few baby seals who survived this season's devastating lack of ice.We asked the Canadian government to cancel the hunt, but instead it radically upped the number of seals to be slaughtered: 388,200 harp, grey, and hooded seals.
Seriously, Canada?
So many of you have written in with pledges of things you will do if Canada ends the seal hunt -- some of them fun, some of them funny, but all of them thoughtful.
I've made my own promise: If Canada cancels the hunt, I will invite the entire House of Commons to the harp seal nursery to celebrate the lives of the baby seals who have been spared.
Meanwhile, I'll be at the hunt, bearing witness and exposing this cruelty to the world until it's ended for good. Please join me in keeping the pressure on the Canadian government. And join me, too, in looking forward to that amazing day when Canada finally ends the seal hunt once and for all, and we can all make good on our promises!
Thank you for everything you've done and will do to save seals.
Sincerely,
