And just like that another year zoomed on by, I wasn’t able make it to some

My Story
2003
At age 21 I started researching possible causes for my overall bad health. Upon discovering Candidiasis and The Yeast Connection, I bought several books and created notebooks with printed charts. I never actually went through with it. My mind was focused on too many other things and the idea of taking control of my eating habits just seamed overwhelmingly difficult. Over the next few years I just learned how to deal with how bad I felt all of the time. I gave in to the idea that never having energy and a motivation for leading a productive life was just who I was.
2010
My Mother had been talking to me to the past the past few years of all the changes she had been making with her diet. She was starting to understand some of the points I had brought up to her about hormones and antibiotics in our food. She told me about www.greensmoothiegirl.com and www.thekindlife.com. While I was house-sitting at my Mom's (February 2010) I started to read her copy of The Kind Diet. She told me about the blog a while ago and I found it enjoyable enough to check every day. This is the first "healthy" book I have enjoyed enough to read all the way through. Also, while I was out there, I was out in the sun every day working on their property. I am normally quite sedentary. With all that was going on those two weeks, Alicia's Silverstone's words just sunk in. I had heard in some way most of the facts she pointed out in her book, but I hadn't quite received all the facts at once. When she broke down the amount of resources it takes to throw that slab of flesh on my plate, a light went off in my head. It just didn't add up.
Here in March 2010, I am exploring a diet change over. I am switching from meet and potato TV dinners to home cooked vegan meals. This is proving to be quite a challenge for me. Thus far, I have visited the local farmer's market (which was 3 blocks from my house), and checked out all my local health food stores. Luckily, I live in Southern California, and near a college, so there are 3 within 2 miles of my house. Things in my kitchen are slowly being replaced with healthier vegan versions and vegetables are on my daily menu. My 28th birthday is on April 30 and I hope to celebrate that day with 30 days of vegan success.
